Government Requests Factories to Give Paid Day-off for Booster Shots

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has asked factory owners to give their workers a paid day off to allow them to get their booster shots. The request was made by Labour Minister, Ith Sam Heng, on Monday. It’s part of the government’s efforts to ensure as many people as possible have as much protection as possible against Covid-19.

The booster vaccination campaign in Phnom Penh started officially on Monday, facilitated by the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces. The third dose is being provided in line with government’s mission to get Cambodia into a new normal, while maintaining the stability of production lines and the health of workers at factories and large enterprises.

Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, Ith Sam Heng, wants as many of those workers as possible to get their third shot of vaccine and believes giving workers a paid day off to get one will do the trick. He expects owners or directors of factories and other big companies to comply. The Garment Manufacturers Association of Cambodia has already publicly posted the notification sent by the Ministry.

As of Monday, 11 October, the Royal Government of Cambodia has already provided a booster or third dose against Covid-19 to 981,031 people in the kingdom.
